A Game About Digging A Hole Together will be released on 4 December 2026. The date was announced on 20 October during the ID@Xbox x IGN broadcast, and Xbox Wire lists it for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Game Pass from launch. The Steam page carries the same date.
The first game, A Game About Digging A Hole, was a small project its creator Ben built in a few weeks in 2025 while mainly working on Solarpunk. When the sequel was revealed on 29 September, he wrote that the response to it had "genuinely changed my life" and that players kept asking for two things: more to do, and the chance to dig with friends.
Rebuilt for co-op
Ben handed development to Mi'pu'mi Games, the studio that made the console versions of the first game and of Solarpunk. According to the reveal post, the original code was not built with a sequel in mind, so the team rebuilt the game from scratch, which let it add online co-op for up to four players and crossplay. The list of changes also includes a larger world with longer runs, several terrain types, four tool categories with more upgrades, a new beach and collectibles to bring back to it. It can still be played solo. The loop stays the same: dig, sell what you find, upgrade your gear and keep going down towards a treasure buried under the beach.
A community playtest ran from 9 to 12 October. In the date announcement the developers said the feedback was mostly positive, and that players found jetpack flight a little wobbly, which they are working on before launch. They also pointed out how quickly the date followed the reveal, less than a month, and said the game had been well along in development for some time. Steam lists rokaplay Select and Shochiku as publishers, and no price has been given yet.
