The questions people bring to r/EmulationOnAndroid are shifting from consoles to PC games. Of the 419 posts flaired Help or Question in the subreddit between 5 and 12 October, 142 named at least one app built to run Windows or Steam games on Android. That is 33.9%, up from 97 of 360 posts, or 26.9%, the week before. These are posts, not people, and a help request measures trouble as much as popularity.
GameHub was named most, in 62 help posts, up from 48. DroidDeck jumped from 12 to 45, Winlator and its forks held steady at 41 against 39, and GameNative rose from 19 to 28. The only console emulator in the same range was Eden, the Switch emulator, in 42 posts, up from 26. The PS2 emulators ARMSX2, NetherSX2 and AetherSX2 fell from 18 to 14, and Dolphin from 9 to 2. Close to half the help posts, 190 of 419, named none of the apps we looked for.
Why DroidDeck climbed
DroidDeck's rise lines up with its release schedule. The project's GitHub releases page lists version 0.3.0 on 2 October, 0.3.1 on 5 October and 0.3.2 on 8 October, so new builds landed inside the counting window twice. Version 0.3.0 added import and export of "GameHub and Winlator save zips", so saves can move across from those apps. AndroidSage described the app on 4 October as running Valve's ARM64 Linux Steam client on Android, with FEX-Emu translating x86 code, Valve's ARM64 Proton and DXVK, and without root. It said the best 3D acceleration needs Qualcomm Snapdragon chips with Adreno GPUs that can run the open-source Turnip drivers. In our count, 19 help posts this week mentioned Turnip, Mesa or a GPU driver, against 14 the week before.
How we counted
The posts come from the Arctic Shift archive of Reddit, for 5 to 12 October and for 28 September to 5 October. We kept only posts that carried the subreddit's own Help or Question flair when archived, so a post later marked Solved is not counted, and dropped repeats of the same title by the same author. A script searched each post's title and text for each app's name, with forks grouped together, such as Winlator with Ludashi and WinNative. A post naming GameHub and Winlator counts once for each app and once for the PC-games group, so the app figures add up to more than the group. We read 50 matches by hand and found no false ones. Posters choose their own flair, and an app with more users will draw more questions whether or not it works well.
