AI Games Starting to Dominate Steam
Artificial intelligence is becoming more prominent in games developed and published on Steam. With intense spikes in AI usage, this raises the question of what the future holds for video games.
The use of artificial intelligence in video games has skyrocketed lately. As AI becomes more common in game development, platforms like Steam now require AI disclosures when developers use generative AI.
In January 2024, when Valve introduced AI disclosures on Steam, fewer than 2% of games used artificial intelligence in their development. In October 2026, though, nearly 50% of all games had an AI disclosure with their release. One important thing to note, though, is that many more games may be using AI.
This is because Steam's AI disclosure is up to developers and publishers, who decide whether they used artificial intelligence to make their game. If they don't want to disclose it, nothing stops them from simply leaving Steam's AI disclosure out.

Artificial intelligence in these games is mostly used for artwork, but it also supports a wide range of other tasks, including translating text, producing marketing materials, and writing code. AI costs have started to affect the gaming industry, and they're changing how developers respond.
According to the developers, Teach My Little Sister How to Drive has been performing so well that artificial intelligence costs have skyrocketed to over $1,000 a day. As a result, the developers took out a loan to help pay the AI costs in their game.
AI continues to be used more and more in video games. It's a very touchy subject, but as it stands, AI disclosures allow gamers to decide whether they will play a game that includes generative artificial intelligence.
