SuperStation Pocket is Taki Udon's first FPGA handheld, and it takes real Game Boy, Color and Advance carts

Retro Remake says the handheld is almost done, with an open-source design and a dock for 4K HDMI. There is no date yet, and the price so far is a single digit.

Taki Udon, the name behind the PS1-styled SuperStation One, posted a teaser on 28 October for the SuperStation Pocket, a handheld from Retro Remake. "We've been working on this the entire year and our first FPGA handheld is almost done," the post said, as quoted by Retro Dodo. It will play Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges.

That puts it in the same corner as the Analogue Pocket, and Retro Dodo makes the comparison directly. The FPGA is also meant to run cores up to PS1 and N64, which is a good way past what the cartridge slot covers.

What has been said so far

Up to 4K HDMI output comes through a dock, which Retro Handhelds describes as a separate product that Retro Remake also plans to make. The project is due to be open source from launch, and Taki promises "unbeatable latency", a claim nobody can test yet. Taki also confirmed four face buttons in replies on Twitter, according to Retro Handhelds.

Neither report has a release date. Retro Handhelds lists it as coming soon.

The price is one digit

The teaser gives a price starting with $1 and hides the rest. Retro Dodo reads that as cheaper than the Analogue Pocket, which it puts at $239 in the base colours. Retro Handhelds says it will come in under $200, though nothing official backs that up beyond the leading digit. Retro Handhelds suggests waiting for more information before buying a rival.

Not the other one

Taki has been busy this month, so it is worth keeping the projects apart. This is not the SP-style handheld Taki showed recently, Retro Handhelds says. It is also separate from the SNES-based SuperFPGA console teased earlier in October. The teaser image shows one corner of a pale shell, which looks like an original Game Boy Pocket to Retro Dodo.
